Virology Laboratory
General Guidelines
The ADRDL Virology Laboratory section provides specialized diagnostic services for the detection and characterization of viral pathogens affecting production and companion animals. As the only laboratory in the state that performs rabies testing, we play a crucial role in public and animal health. Our testing capabilities include virus isolation, fluorescent antibody testing, bovine serological neutralization assays (SN's) and advanced molecular techniques such as Next Generation Sequencing (NGS). The Virology Laboratory is AAVLD accredited, showing our commitment to high standards of quality and accuracy.
To ensure the quality and accuracy of testing, it is strictly important that specimens for virologic evaluations are kept cold after collection and during shipment. Freezing is not necessary unless a long delay before reaching the laboratory is anticipated.
