Air Force Mission Statement

Fly, fight and win... in air, space and cyberspace.

Welcome to the home of the Flying Jacks - Air Force ROTC Detachment 780 at 葫芦影业. Our detachment has a long history of providing leaders for our nation鈥檚 Air Force - dating back to the first commissioned class in 1948. We continue that legacy today, and are proud to commission leaders into the world's first Space Force as well.

The Aerospace Studies Department at SDSU is dedicated to training college students for successful careers as officers in the United States Air Force and the United States Space Force. In addition to training SDSU students, our detachment has cross-town agreements with Dakota State University (DSU), Augustana University (AU) and the University of Sioux Falls (USF).

According to these agreements, students from these schools are authorized to be members of SDSU鈥檚 AFROTC detachment. Students from these cross-town schools may call our detachment (see number above) for more information about AFROTC.

The Aerospace Studies Department offers four courses that any student may take, whether they want to be officers in the Air Force or not!

  • AIR 101 and 102: Department of the Air Force Professionalism/Competition and Security.
  • AIR 201 and 202: Team and Leadership Fundamentals.

Our detachment is located in DePuy Military Hall (1150 Campanile Avenue) at SDSU鈥檚 main campus in Brookings, South Dakota. Our office hours are 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding federal holidays). You can contact us above via email or phone if you have any questions, or if you would like additional information about Air Force ROTC.

Our Core Values

It is important to understand the mission and values that guide and motivate an organization and its members. Here are ours!

1. Integrity First

Integrity is essential. It is the inner voice, the source of self-control, the basis for the trust that is imperative in today's military. Doing the right thing when nobody is looking.

2. Service Before Self

Military service is not just another job. It is an uncommon profession that calls for people of uncommon dedication. A leader unwilling to sacrifice individual goals for the good of the unit cannot convince other members to do so.

3. Excellence In All We Do

Our mission often involves the risk of human life and sometimes鈥攏ational survival. The obligation to excel is a moral obligation for members of a professional military force.
