Assessment is the process of gathering and analyzing information about student learning and development. We use routine assessment processes to design effective instruction in academic and co-curricular programs. Detailed guidelines are available to SDSU employees on pages.

Program Assessment

Each academic and co-curricular program at SDSU conducts an annual assessment of student learning outcomes in their program(s). Assessment Coordinators are designated within their unit and use a tool called Watermark Planning and Self Study to record their assessments.

General Education Assessment

General Education is curriculum shared by institutions within the South Dakota Board of Regents (SDBOR) System. The curricular requirements are usually completed by students within their first two years of undergraduate study. The SDSU General Education Assessment Plan outlines our processes to assess student learning outcomes (SLOs) for six goals affiliated with the general education requirements (SGRs).

Course Evaluations

At the end of each semester, SDSU administers course evaluations to students in courses. Aggregated results per course are provided to faculty and administrators who use it to improve teaching and learning. OIRA supports the effort by working with SDBOR to manage the administration of the course evaluations using Anthology Evaluate.
