Designed by Sioux Falls architect John J. Schwartz, Wecota Hall was built in 1915 at a cost of $75,000 and was the second women’s dormitory on campus. The annex was constructed in 1940.

Wecota and Wenona Halls were added to the National Register of Historic Places by the U.S. Department of the Interior May 7, 1980. Both buildings are fine examples of the neoclassical style and significant for their representation of early 20th century academic architecture in a campus setting.

Four distinctive columns with ornate tops create a distinctive focal point at Wecota Hall's double front doors. Wecota signifies the second maiden in an Indian family.
