Morakot Kaewmanee
Imaging Engineer II
Biography
Morakot Kaewmanee came to SDSU as a visiting scientist in 2012. She has been employed as an Imaging Engineer I for the IP Lab since 2015.
Education
- M.S. in spatial information system in engineering | Chulalongkorn University, Thailand
- B.S. in land information and surveying | Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia
Academic and Professional Experience
Academic Interests
- PICS
- Satellite calibration
Research and Scholar Work
Areas of Research
- She focuses on utilizing PICS as a calibration source, developing algorithms to bring all the PICS in North Africa together to a reference point, and providing a greater temporal resolution for data acquisition for satellite calibration. This process is called the PICS Normalization Process, and she integrates the Worldwide Optimal PICS Search to refine the technique.
- She improves SDSU鈥檚 Absolute PICS Calibration model, which can be applicable to any optical sensors. A recent performance of the APICS model can predict TOA reflectance of any sensor to within 2% for all OLI spectral bands. Even with the latest finding, there is still some room for improvement like spectral differences and atmospheric correction in water absorption bands.
- She looks forward to performing cross calibration with newly launched satellites, applying new algorithms developed within the SDSU IP Lab and using these to contribute to the satellite calibration community.
- She also is interested in working with satellite imagery and precision agriculture.
