Internship and Career Opportunities
Build a strong professional resume even before you graduate!
SDSU鈥檚 Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering is one of the region鈥檚 leading producers of computer scientists, engineers, mathematicians, statisticians and technologists. Located along the I-29 corridor in the heart of the state鈥檚 principal manufacturing and high-tech industries, the college enjoys a close partnership with many local and regional employers. Of course, this offers students exceptional opportunities for employment both before and after graduation.
Work experience before graduation: We encourage students in all of our majors to take advantage of the numerous internship and part-time work opportunities available in Brookings and the immediate region. Frequently there are more job opportunities than available students! These positions offer students a unique opportunity to build professional experience and earn some extra money while completing their degrees. Students from all majors in the College of Engineering are highly sought after by South Dakota employers.
Stay in South Dakota after graduation: A growing number of College of Engineering graduates now remain in the state for professional employment by South Dakota employers who highly value our graduates. Nearly two-thirds of all College of Engineering graduates choose to remain in South Dakota to begin high-paying STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) careers. Salaries range from $40,000 to $70,000 depending on the major.
Become licensed: Many of our students choose an engineering career requiring professional licensure, and SDSU students score very well in the required examinations. Our graduating engineering majors typically score above the national average on the Fundamentals in Engineering examination required for becoming a registered Professional Engineer.
