Greetings, Jackrabbits!

This edition of the ºù«Ӱҵ College of Nursing’s newsletter is very much a story about the impact of nursing leadership. I often tell students that the beauty of a nursing degree is that you can go many different directions with it. In this issue, we highlight just a few of our leaders but know that there are many more of you out there!

Two educators, one nurse executive and one entrepreneur — Jackrabbits all! This past fall, we were fortunate to be able to celebrate the substantial accomplishments of Dr. Carol Peterson as the inaugural recipient of our Living Legacy Award. The stature of the College of Nursing at SDSU is due, in large part, to the tremendous efforts of Dr. Peterson. In fact, she was dean when I was an undergraduate at SDSU, so she helped me get to where I am today, and I am grateful for her role.

We also recognized Dr. Lois Tschetter with the Distinguished Service Award for her ongoing work for and in service to the College of Nursing. Dr. Tschetter serves on the college’s Development Team and continues to provide counsel and support for our future. Dr. Tera Gross and Jessica Morrell have also forged unique paths through executive leadership and entrepreneurship that demonstrate the value of an SDSU degree and are inspirational.

We are excited for our ongoing building projects that will help us to meet the nursing workforce needs across the state. Our Rapid City project will be completed in summer 2025, and our Sioux Falls building will be ready for move-in summer 2026. Both of these projects will allow us to grow our cohort size and provide community and interprofessional educational opportunities for our collaborating partners. I am excited about the possibilities.

As I travel around the state and country, I love hearing about all of your SDSU and career experiences. If you are ever in the area, please stop in. We would love to show you around.
