A rehabilitation services minor fits well with majors such as human development and family studies, psychology and sociology. Rehabilitation counselors provide services that assist people with physical or psychiatric disabilities to become or remain self-sufficient, productive citizens. They help people with disabilities lead satisfying and productive lives.

Their knowledge of specific disabilities as well as related knowledge and skills, distinguish rehabilitation counselors. Rehabilitation counselors address the environmental and social obstacles facing people with disabilities; facilitate connections between people with disabilities and their families, communities and employers; and utilize knowledge from several fields, including psychology, medicine, psychiatry, sociology, education, and law. Career opportunities include job coach, placement specialist, human services aide, rehabilitation consultant, case manager. These careers can be in work settings such as: addictions rehabilitation centers, independent living centers correctional facilities, comprehensive rehabilitation centers and/or academic settings.
